HDR – I've not noticed any particular issues with HDR being too dark or washed out. Some newer TVs and OLED TV's would probably look better, but they also come with a higher price tag. A replacement panel may help to fix the issue, but could be a few settings that can be tweaked to improve it.
I had this exact problem with my Samsung UE32F6800. While I didn't manage to completely remove the dimming effect on dark scenes, I did manage to get it down to a level where it doesn't cause a problem. HDR on my Q80T is too dark no matter what the settings are. This happens on all HDR content, regardless of source. It is apparently common with thousands of customers.
